“A remarkable learning opportunity with immense potential”, Johnson Kansiime on his inaugural poster presentation
19 September 2023
Johnson Kansiime, our doctoral student, had a great experience as he conducted his first-ever poster presentation. This was during the International Society of Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS) 2023 Annual Conference, which took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from the 21st to the 25th of August 2023. Subsequently, Johnson’s poster earned him the First Prize in the ISQOLS 2023 Best Poster Awards category. In his reaction to the award, Johnson acknowledged his co-author and colleagues at IAMO, for their invaluable support and feedback throughout the poster preparation and presentation process. He further thanked all conference participants for this great honour and recognition. Johnson described the award as reassuring and remarked that this recognition brings forth long-term motivation to face the subsequent challenges and tasks with even greater determination and courage.
Mainly focused on his first two objectives and co-authored with Antje Jantsch, the poster was titled “The Multidimensional Drivers of Well-being and the Im(mobility) Decisions of Rural Residents: Empirical Evidence from Germany.” The poster clearly highlighted the problem background, knowledge gap, research objectives, proposed conceptual consideration, methods and data, as well as scientific contribution. The numerous discussions held with the audience during the poster presentation session generated great conceptual and methodological tips and positive remarks, further underscoring the relevance of this work.
Among other activities, Johnson actively attended several sessions of interest and engaged with many experienced researchers from all over the World. Moreover, he utilised the moment to check out other researchers’ posters, an idea that yielded fruitful deliberations and networking.
